-
Is AuctionMethod hard to use?
No! The platform is quick to implement, and easy for anyone to operate. When you have a question, our support team is available by phone and email during business hours. If we can’t get you an answer right away, you can count on us to get back to you quickly. -
How many items or auctions can I run?
There are no limits. Your subscription includes unlimited items, photos, bidders, and events. -
How configurable is the platform, and can it be white-labeled?
Our flexible platform gives you the control you need to run your auctions your way and configure your website's headers, footers, background colors, and logos to match your branding. You can remove the “Powered by Auction Method” branding, which appears in the bottom right corner of websites, with an add-on. -
Do I own my auction data and can it be exported?
All of your data within the AuctionMethod system belongs to you, always. You can easily export all data from the backend, including bidder information, item details, and reports. This data can be downloaded in formats like CSV files for analysis or import into other systems. -
Does AuctionMethod allow users to place a bid higher than the minimum bid amount?
Yes. Bidders can place a bid higher than the minimum bid increment. This is called a "proxy bid" or "maximum bid" and allows the system to automatically bid on the user's behalf up to their maximum amount. -
Can I require users to place bids in defined increments?
AuctionMethod has been built to be flexible, so you can run your auction your way. Our auction event solutions allow you to set defined bid increments, ensuring a consistent and fair bidding process across all auctions. -
Can I offer fixed-price items alongside auctions?
Yes. You can list items with a set “Buy Now” price for direct purchase out of an auction. Fixed price classified event types can also be used for inventory sales or meeting consignor price expectations. -
How do sealed bid ‘blind’ auctions simulate a silent auction?
Blind bidding hides all other bids from participants. Bidders simply submit their best offer. The highest bid wins, making it perfect for real estate auctions, silent auctions, or other events where privacy is key. -
Is AuctionMethod a good fit for nonprofit auctions?
Yes. Many nonprofits use blind bidding for silent auctions. AuctionMethod’s auction platform supports non-profits with donation-friendly payment methods, easy item uploads, and direct links for promoting auction items. -
Can I build and display a catalog without opening bidding?
Yes. Catalog-only events let you showcase items online without enabling bidding. This works well for previews, inventory displays, or prep for future auctions. -
Can I import auction items in bulk?
Yes. You can upload auction data via a CSV file or use our mobile app to capture item photos and details on-site. All changes sync to your catalog automatically. -
How does the software handle sales tax and reseller tax exemptions on invoices?
During invoicing, the software will automatically calculate and apply sales tax to auction events or specific items based on tax codes, set rates, and the buyer's location. If a bidder has a valid reseller tax-exemption certificate on file, the software will recognize their tax-exempt status. For more advanced tax needs, Custom Solutions can integrate with Avalara. -
How do you handle shipping and removal of purchased items?
The software includes built-in tools to help you track of which lots and items have been picked up. Features include removal scheduling, a checkout tool in the Auctioneer’s Toolbox mobile app, and removal authorization forms for buyer releases. For more advanced shipping needs, Custom Solutions can integrate with EasyPost. -
What kind of reporting options are available?
AuctionMethod includes powerful reporting capabilities, including accounts receivable reports, sales tax reports, invoice summaries, deposit reports, bidder expense reports, and more. These reports can be filtered and exported for further analysis and impact. For more advanced business intelligence needs, Custom Solutions can integrate with Snowflake. -
How does Consignor Management work, including commission calculation and item uploading?
The Consignor Management add-on allows you to create consignors, configure permissions, and assign them multiple items. After the auction, AuctionMethod automatically creates the consignor statement, calculates commissions, and provides details on sold and unsold items, commissions, and any associated fees. -
How does Chargeback Mitigation work?
We handle each chargeback dispute for a flat $395 fee per instance. There is no charge for this service for Fiserv users. You submit the claim, our team investigates, compiles a strong response, and offers insights to prevent future issues.
-
How are custom development services billed?
We provide a firm quote for all development work before getting started. If you choose to proceed, payment is required in advance. For larger projects, we may accept a 50% down payment, with the remaining balance due upon completion. Visit our Custom Auction Solutions page for more information. -
How does the custom development process work?
We provide firm, upfront estimates for all development work so there are no surprises around cost. Our process follows four key phases: Design, Develop, Test, and Deliver. Each step is carried out with your business goals in mind to ensure a tailored, high-quality solution.
1. Comprehensive Design Phase
We begin by learning your business through detailed consultations. Together, we define your goals, workflows, and priorities, then turn those insights into a project blueprint. This plan is refined collaboratively until you provide full approval, ensuring it aligns with your specific needs.
2. Expert Development Process
With the approved design in place, our expert development team gets to work. We write clean, efficient code that delivers strong performance, scalability, and long-term reliability. Every build is designed to support your current operations and future growth.
3. Rigorous Testing Phase
Our QA team performs thorough testing to ensure your software functions exactly as intended. From individual features to overall system performance, we identify and resolve any issues to ensure a smooth and dependable experience at launch.
4. Delivery and Implementation
Once testing is complete, we present the finished software for your review and feedback, with the ability to request fine-tuning. After final approval, we update your site with the new system and ensure a smooth transition with minimal disruption. Our team remains available during rollout to support your success.

Online Timed Events
-
Can users place a bid higher than the minimum bid amount?
Yes, bidders can place a bid higher than the minimum bid increment. This is called a "proxy bid" or "maximum bid". The system will use the bidder's maximum amount setting to automatically bid on their behalf. -
What is a bid extension or soft close?
A bid extension, or soft close, is a feature of timed online auctions that automatically extends the end time of an auction item if a bid is placed within the last few minutes of the auction. This prevents "sniping," or last-second bidding, and ensures that all interested bidders have a fair chance to place their highest bid. -
Can I control the "soft-close" extended bidding settings?
Yes. You can enable or disable extended bidding, and you can control when it happens, whether time is added to the countdown clock or it is reset, and how much time is used for the bid extension. -
Is there a dynamic closing option for timed online auctions?
A custom "Dynamic Closing View" option is available for all timed online auctions. It changes the catalog layout when the auction is closing to focus bidders’ attention on the items that are selling soonest. -
What options are available for managing categories?
AuctionMethod's online auction software provides several options for managing categories, allowing administrators to effectively organize auction items and enhance user experience. The available options include:
- Add categories: Administrators can create new categories to suit the specific needs of their auction events, ensuring items are organized and easy to find for bidders.
- Edit categories: Existing categories can be modified to update their names or descriptions, enabling better organization and clearer presentation of auction items.
- Delete categories: If a category is no longer needed or has become obsolete, administrators can remove it from the system.
- Category-specific fees: Custom fees can be added to buyer invoices or to consignor statements based on the category of the lot sold.
-
Can I manage consignor accounts on AuctionMethod?
Yes, our software platforms can provide comprehensive consignor management options, including creating and editing consignor statements, controlling commissions, and managing account privileges. -
Do bidders see bid status information in real-time?
Yes, bidders on the AuctionMethod platform see bid status information in real-time. As bids are placed, the system updates the bid status immediately, ensuring that bidders always have the most current information. This real-time visibility allows bidders to stay engaged and make informed decisions throughout the auction process. Additionally, the platform provides real-time updates on outbid notices and auction closing alerts, keeping bidders informed and allowing them to act quickly and efficiently.

How does AuctionMethod's Simulcast Auction solution work?
The Simulcast Auction solution is a low-latency live auction simulcast tool that includes a clerking console to manage bids from both live and remote participants. It supports prebidding, on-the-fly lot creation, and group and choice lot sales. -
Does your online and live auction software offer features for simulcast events?
Yes, our platform supports simulcast auctions, which involve an auctioneer with a live audience and an online audience. The platform allows for streaming and online bidding to happen simultaneously with in-person live auction bidding. Built-in features enhance bidder experience, smooth clerking, and streamline auction administration. -
Can the system handle multiple simultaneous simulcast events?
Yes. Multiple events can run at the same time. Auctioneers and clerks each have their own system views and clerking consoles. Each event operates independently, ensuring bids, lots, and bidder data remain clearly separated and organized. -
Do your simulcast features work across various devices?
Yes. Bidders will be able to access your event from their preferred desktop computer, laptop, phone, or tablet. -
Is simulcast a good option for high-value items like real estate?
Simulcast is well-suited for high-value assets such as real estate. It allows remote and in-person bidders to compete in real time, helping maximize exposure and final sale price. -
Can simulcast auction items be sold "on the fly" without being pre-cataloged?
Yes, the clerking console allows for live, on-the-fly sales of items not pre-entered into the system. This gives you the flexibility to add and sell unexpected items in real time without disrupting the flow of the event. -
Does the platform integrate with social media platforms for live‑streaming?
The live auction software hosts audio and video streams for online bidders, but it doesn’t stream directly to social media. Separate streams can be set up if needed. -
Does AuctionMethod support phone bids?
Yes, clerks can enter bids received by phone directly into the clerking console. -
How does reconciliation work at the end of a hybrid auction?
Reconciliation is automatic. Invoices can be generated at any time and are automatically created as soon as the auction concludes. AuctionMethod also tracks payments and pickups, helping staff quickly identify outstanding balances or unclaimed items. -
How long does it take to set up and activate simulcast features?
Your hybrid online and live auction software will be ready for use as soon as the agreement is signed and the onboarding fee is paid. Our tech team will be on hand to ensure proper configuration and assist with simulcast setup if you choose to use it. -
Are the simulcast auction tools hard to use? What training is available?
The simulcast features of our live auction software have been built to make it easy for anyone to use. Proper planning and training are recommended to maximize positive outcomes. All staff should be given an opportunity to train and practice before going live. We invite you to schedule dedicated training sessions to address your specific needs. Free weekly webinar trainings are available twice weekly for drop-in help. Pro support is also available for fast answers and email support. -
Can the simulcast add-on be turned on and off as I need it?
It can, but we don’t recommend it as you will incur an activation fee each time. Most auctioneers find it more economical to just leave their add-on subscription in place and access the simulcast feature when they need it.
